ASEP11 to Further Expand Alliances Between Member Countries

Phnom Penh: Cambodia expects a stronger and expanded alliance with parliaments around the world through the upcoming 11th Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting (ASEP11) that it will host. The statement was made by the chairman of the Commission for Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, Information and Media of the National Assembly, Chhieng Vun.

He says Cambodia has good relations with parliaments in the region and around the world and has attended major parliamentary meetings like the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA). He says Cambodia's National Assembly has played “a crucial role” in both organisations.

He has also underlined the significance of ASEP11, saying that the event will be a good opportunity for Cambodia to demonstrate national prestige as it will be chaired by the President of the National Assembly, Heng Samrin, and Prime Minister Hun Sen. He says “It will also not only help resolve and restore Cambodia's tourism, but also build trust for foreign investors to invest in the country.”

The 11th Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting will be held on the sidelines of ASEM13, which will be hosted virtually by Cambodia in November. Other events include the Asia-Europe Forum on Women, Peace and Security, the Asia-Europe Cultural Festival, the 1st Asia-Europe Economic and Business Forum, the ASEF Young Leaders Summit and the 10th ASEF Editors' Roundtable.
